What is means to be successful

What have you been successful in this past year, 2017? It could be in school, in sports, in church, a big or small achievement. Explain how and why you were successful and what it meant to you.

This year of 2017 i have been successful in Social Studies because i find the tasks easy to complete and easy to study about. I haven't received my scores for Social Studies but i know i have done good because i had faith in myself and faith in Jesus. In church i have succeeded in my exams and i have accomplished 1st place of C.I.C.C. Also in sports i received great achievements. I sometimes get R.I.S.E cards from my dean because i have showed and represented R.I.S.E as a Tamaki College Student. I have successfully been through water baptism and i am proud to be one with God because now i am officially connected with him and i am blessed to be his son. I have won lots of achievements this year and i am proud of every achievement i receive. I am proud and my family is proud aswell because they supported me everyday to do good in school, to unlock my dreams.

Just a quick shout out to a girl ~Moana~ because before our Tamaki College end of year for year 9 exams began, i was stressed out and was not confident in myself. But Moana supported me, encouraged me, motivated me and helped me to gain the confidence to do good and i just want to say thank you.

Thank you to everyone who helped me become a successful student !!

My year 9 Social Studies experience

In Social Studies my personal favourite subject i have learnt and studied was finding out the problems of the environments in our Community. For eg. i have studied all about our waterways and why our waterways became a problem in our Community. It is because our waterways are being blocked by rubbish and the water is polluted, poisonous and unhealthy. A solution we came up with was to unblock the rubbish, clear the water to involution and to keep the water healthy and more clean. We are going to sustain our waterways, to change our waterways and to make our waterways more better. The things i should work on next time is to stick with the right people to learn with because some times i can easily get distracted and that will effect onto my learning. I should work on finishing my work and making the time at home to finish it off, and i should work on self concentration which means working by myself so that i don't fall into distractions. Social studies helped me with my life by putting some knowledge into my head and by learning and understanding more about our outside world, Community. It helped me by understanding and discovering more vocabulary.

Before i move onto year 10 i just want to give a big thank you to Ms Apelu for helping me in Social studies. I just want to say mad love even though you were so concentrated on the other people in our class but yeah just want to say thank you and i will miss you. I wish that i can get to be with you during my 5 years of life in Tamaki College so i can be taught by you because your my personal favourite teacher. Thank you!!

High Score, got that 100% :))

Environmental issues: PART ONE

Why is RUBBISH one of the biggest issues?
Read the article below to help you answer the questions.

What is the first word that comes to your mind when you think of RUBBISH? The first word that enters my mind is Littering. Littering is very bad for the community because it makes the appearance of the environment in our Community very untidy. Littering is a action most people apparently do, dropping rubbish not only on ground but also underwater and that will kill the underwater life and everything living underwater such as underwater plants, the ocean and the fishes and sea creatures underwater. Rubbish can be found in any places. Underwater, on ground, underground, and up high in trees. When you litter, you make the environment in the community very unclean, and very unhealthy.
Write down 5 words that you find important and 5 words that you think are important to show the problem.  For each word, find the meanings.
Turtles
Plastics

Culprit
Against
Horrific death

Petition
Government
Huge range of species
Environmental groups
Signatures (10,400)

Write a summary that describes in your own words how plastic bags are affecting our environment. Plastic bags are now affecting our environment in our Community, dangerously killing our land and destroying the lives of living things such as plants, animals, sea creatures and life. Plastic bags not only float around on land but even underwater, making the appearance of sea life environment very unhealthy. Plastic in the underwaters kills underwater species and destroys the life of the underwater. Plastic bags are now being eaten by our critical sea creatures and they attend to start to slowly die. Turtles are the main underwater sea creatures that die by trying to digest plastic floating in the sea because to them they think it’s food but to us, its rubbish. Turtles thinks of plastic as jellyfish but when trying to eat it, they struggle trying to digest the plastic into their stomach and they struggle to swallow the plastic. Thousands of turtles are found dead on land and in sea because apparently the amount of plastic they eat stops their lungs from functioning properly, and they slowly start dieing. Plastics are found in not only turtle bodies but also inside of other types of underwater, on land species such as seabirds and wales. Plastic not only destroy the life of the under waters but also the life around us on ground. Plastics are floating around, and making the appearance of the environment in our Community very unpleasant and very untidy.
What were the two ways mentioned in the article, that people tried to stop selling plastic bags?  Do you think they will work?  Explain your answer.

Relationships 2017 Term 4

What are the different relationships we can have? Online, Social relationships are when you talk someone you love dearly consistently everyday or even every night. Family relationships are spending time with your family, creating memories with your family, sharing endless love with your family. School relationships as in getting to know new people and creating a vibe, tight bond with them. Relationship towards Jesus Christ by praising his name and all the good things he has done for us. Thanking him for sacrificing his life for us, to wipeout all sins.

What are the important qualities of a friendship? Just being there for the one you love and never thinking of leaving them just like that. Stay with her/him till the end of your life and just stay occupied and attracted to them. Love them with all your heart, and just let them know that no matter how bad things get, you will always love her/him and you will never leave her/him. Always tell her the truth and never hide things even if it’s personal depression, but always be honest with her and tell her your troubles and your struggles and your put downs. Respect her and never treat her like she’s nothing, treat her truthfully like a queen and always put a smile on her face, and keep her happy.

What are the important qualities of a boyfriend/girlfriend? Loyalty, always stay loyal to one and don’t hoe around slithering like a snake, girl by girl by girl. Stay loyal and keep her occupied and attracted to only you. Be loyal and kind to her, don't disrespect her and realise the hidden troubles and inner depression she feels. Hug her and love her with all your heart, if you see her crying just hug her and say you love her. Tell her how much she means to you and how much you love her, and get real close with her, create a tight, firm and a very loving bond with her. Be honest and never lie to her, always tell the truth and admit all the mistakes you do.

What are the important relationships you have in your life? Family relationships are important to me because as long i know that my family loves me, i will be happy and i will always share my love back. Family means everything to me because without family who else will love me as much as they do, and who will treat me the way they do. Family is important to me because they have been there for me since i was born and through all our hard times together, our family is still together as one. I love my family so much that the word love itself can’t emphasise how much i love them.

What makes a safe relationship? Loyalty is what makes a safe relationship because as long as your loyal, your relationship with the one you love will probably last your whole life. Honesty keeps a safe relationship because when you tell the truth consistently, she will always have trust in you, and she will be honest and truthful back to you. Cheating is not tolerated in an relationship because that will instantly break your relationship and that's not what you want to happen, just be loyal and stay loyal to her and only to her. When thinking of going to the next stage of your relationship as in having sex, use a condom at least because that's a safe way to keep you healthy and your relationship healthy as well but if you think you're really confident and ready to go the extra mile then of course you can use no condom but really it’s your choice of what you choose to do. Dont abuse your girlfriend, and dont even dare to think about hurting her physically with your ruthless hands and actions, just treat her right like a queen, respect her and just be in love with her. Talk to her with manners and talk to her politely aswell, dont fake what you say to her, and don't ever, never ever break her heart. Don't make her cry, but instead say how much you love her and how much she means to you, tell her your inner emotions towards her, say all the loving things you’ve always wanted too, and most of all LOVE her with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your life.

If I Was Prime Minister

If i was to be Prime Minister, the first thing i would do is to receive most of the money from the Bank, and to give it out to schools so they can have a bright future, i'll give it out to the homeless so they can keep warm, buy enough food to eat, enough clothes to wear, and a roof over their heads. I'll give the money out to those who needs support for the families, for those who's giving birth or starting a new life with a new born, and for those who has no money at all. I will do as best as i can to help, and to support all the families in need of cash, i will be more than grateful to give out money for them. If i was Prime Minister, i would find out all the cures for all the worlds most dangerous diseases, so that all the people caring that disease will be healthy and cured. I will study ways to remove the virus of that disease, so people don't struggle mockery, so people don't struggle the pain and so people don't struggle thinking that there's no way for them to be better. I would help all the people in need of getting better, i would give them the most strongest and safest medicine, i would get highly professional trained Doctors to inject them with pain killers, disease removers, and anything to get the people healthy and cured. If i was the Prime Minister, i would take the entire government to church, so they'll know to share, to love one another, and to treat people with respect. I will show them who has brought them into this world, who has died for them to be safe, who has gave his life for us, i will show and tell them who God is. I will not accept any negatives words, or actions of what they choose or please to do, because they will have to suffer the consequence, which is going to church so they know not to ever do that mistake again. If i was Prime Minister, i would give out a speech. I would tell the world, how important we all are, and how we should care for one another. I would tell the world that we were made to achieve something we adore doing, something we love that only we see ourselves in that position. I would tell the world we are one, like that saying " Together we stand, Divided we fall " . If i was Prime Minister, i would ban gangs eg: Crips, Bloods, Killer Bees, and all that negative crews. I would ban gangs because they are why our young peoples are getting into trouble and into jail. I want our Country to be clean, no fighting, no negativity, no nothing but kindness and love. I hope that if i was Prime Minister, everyone will love me, and im sure if i love "you" i hope to be loved back. Thank You.

S U R V I V A L

What problems did you face?
The problems we faced were having to be warm every night, and having to not be hungry. It was hard for us to catch food to eat, hard to find warm clothing for us, hard for us to get wood for making fire, hard for us to survive. It wasn't as easy as possible, having to swim in very cold water to go fishing, having to pick up and drag a lot of wood back to camp, having to fight vicious animals. Fighting over what belongs to who, fighting over how much we get to eat, fighting over arguments, and how we crash landed on a random island out of the grid.

How did you solve problems?
We solve them by working together to survive, sharing our things, and having to do or help with other peoples jobs. We solved them by making sure everyone is satisfied with what they wear, eat, and how they choose to be warm. We help each other any way best as possible.

Who made decisions?
As a whole group, we all came up with best choices possible. We had came up with how to, what to, to do. We made a great plan on how to survive, how to be warm, how to get enough food and water.

What i have learned about my migrant country

This term i have been studying facts about "Wales", welsh people, and found about a lot of some interesting information during my researches. Well, lets just say, the people of wales came, shipped off to New Zealand to live better lives, but lets be honest they actually came for the gold, in our gold mines. Welsh members are technically from Wales, and the reason of why they are present as welsh members, because i guess, i know that its a traditional thing. Anyways, welsh members actually arrived firstly around the 19th, early 20th centuries. But unfortunately some welsh members are literally struggling in the island, country of wales, either because not that much food or because they starting to become more and more poor of resources for the family, and clothes for them to wear. So they ship themselves or fly down to New Zealand.

From Tokelau to New Zealand

In Tokelau, it was hard for the people, because they had problems like not that much food, not enough clothes, and no money. It was difficult for them, but they always hope, hope that they will on day get enough of everything they wanted, and that they can build more, and live longer. Tokelau, was a small island, with not that much resources, so they struggled with life. The only way for them to live longer, is to do the island way of working, like hunting for food, and making clothes, there wasn't very much money in Tokelau, because it is a very poor country. They prayed to God, asking for help, and they did indeed get help. The families in Tokelau was, in need of help to, so they shipped them off to a different country, for them to live life easier and better. But i was a bit hard for them, because they didn't understand the language other people were saying, and they couldn't understand very well, but all was good for them. They went through tough obstacles, finding, understanding, and communicating. There were some who knew how to speak English, and some that don't, well some that is not used to, not quite yet. Living in a different country was hard, because being far away from their family was a bit too scary and yet to sad, because well, they had to leave their families, for their lives to be better than it is. Tokelauans moved to different countries because living in Tokelau was hard, and difficult, so they decided to ship off to another country so that their lives gets better and so they live their lives easier.

Sitting The Exams

When i first started my exams for this year, i was feeling a bit depressed because of thinking i might fail everything, and thinking that i won't do good enough. I was stressed out, because i was so afraid of getting low marks, and so afraid of being put down a level, i was so embarrassed. Through the whole exams, i had no faith in maths, because maths was the hardest subject for exams, because of the strategies i had to use to complete it. The exams was a big challenge for me because it was way harder than last years exams, because it had, heaps of questions for us to answer, and heaps of solving out to do, it was challenging because the exams got me confused and worried, because i was sure enough that my answers were to be right, and was worried of failing my class and the year group. The exams was hard, and easy, but mainly hard because i didn't really understand the text at first, but reading it over and over again, made me realise that the exam was actually not that hard at all, but still, it was hard for me. I didn't really prepare for my exams well, because in my classes, i did pay attention but always got distracted, and because i wasn't ready for exams week. I wasn't ready at all, because i didn't learn much cause i was distracted, and because we didn't know much, cause we were always loud. I believe that in the science exams, i did excellent because i knew the topics, and i understand everything in science because i was taking notes of what we were to do in the exams. I believe that science was the easiest for me because, i re-learnt every topics in science. I had troubles in my exams like doing the maths exams because i didn't really understand most of the exam, but most of it was kind of easy, but not really, because i disfavour maths, and i do not really like maths at all, but in the maths exams i was proud of myself because luckily i was listening, and i got some questions right. In my exams i could've done better, by answering all the questions, and giving it my best shot, and trying everything even if i didn't know the right answer, i could've have more faith that i would do good, and not to worry that my marks are gonna be low. Next time, i will do my very best, and to never give up so easily. I would answer all the questions, and give it my best shot, and try to not rush but finish the test on time.

When we first started our exams, i wasn't ready
That my hands were shaking, and my brain wasn't steady
Starting of with English, i did a big mistake
That i didn't do it right, which gave me a headache
I struggled in Maths, and got everything wrong
I almost gave up, cause it took way too long
Science was easy, but really complicated
Not knowing the correct answer, that was one thing i hated
Thinking i failed, that i didn't do good enough
Doing something else, and doing other stuff
I answered as best as i can, to get to my goal
And got good marks, at the end of it all

Digital Footprint

What Is A Digital Foot Print? Websites you have been on that can not be deleted in history, it leaves a foot print and anyone can access to see what websites you have been on, so there are literally no ways you can delete any websites you have visited.
Why Are We Learning About Digital Foot Print? Its shows us ways to be safe on Social Media, and that we go on the right websites, and it warns us that we can not delete anything on Social Media cause it will always be permanently posted online. Digital Foot Print helps us realise that anything we post or send can not be erased, it will always be there, and anything negative things we have posted online can not be deleted.
Passive Digital Footprint?A "passive digital footprint" is a data trail you unintentionally leave online. For example, when you visit a website, the web server may log your IP address, which identifies your Internet service provider and your approximate location. While your IP address may change and does not include any personal information, it is still considered part of your digital footprint. A more personal aspect of your passive digital footprint is your search history, which is saved by some search engines while you are logged in.
Active Digital Footprint? An "active digital footprint" includes data that you intentionally submit online. Sending an email contributes to your active digital footprint, since you expect the data be seen and/or saved by another person. The more email you send, the more your digital footprint grows. Since most people save their email online, the messages you send can easily remain online for several years or more.

Sustainability Term 1

Te Taiao O Tamki

What is the theme for Tamaki College's projects? Sustainability
What were the topics for the six projects? Parks and Public spaces
                                                                Protecting our Culture and Identity
                                                                Healthy Foods
                                                                Our Houses, Our Homes
                                                                Rubbish and Recycle
                                                                Our Waterways
What was your project and what did you learn? My project was ( Parks and Public Spaces ) We learnt that there were hardly any parks around in our Community and that we have not that much of entertainment for our children's. So we came up with an idea of building or designing our own parks to put in our Community, for our kids to go and have fun on. We thought that building, designing, replacing parks is a good idea because our parks NOW aren't that much of fun.
What your favourite part of the unit and least favourite?
LIKED :
I liked how we designed our own parks
I liked how we came up with ideas on how to fix the problem
I liked how we all participated and work together
DISLIKED :
I disliked how we didn't get most of our work done
I disliked how we were off task
I disliked how we didn't finished the design of our own park
What did you see at Te Oro yesterday that stood out to you? I saw that my old school ( Glen Taylor ) was presenting something called ( Fish Bone. ) It stood out to me the most because it had heaps of meanings and the design of the ( Fish Bone ) was awesome. It was colourful and full of words. I liked it so muchh.

What is a Fono Fale?

A Fono Fale is a model design of health. It is a similar design of a Hauora, A Hauora is represented as a Marae but a Fono Fale is represented as a Pacifica Hut. A Fono Fale holds four main dimensions - Taha Tinana, Taha Wairua, Taha Hinengaro, Taha Whanau. There are six dimensions all put together in a Fono Fale - Culture, Family, Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Other. These dimensions represent a Fono Fale, if at least one dimension breaks down, the whole building together comes down too. The two main dimensions that are important to a Fono Fale are Culture and Family, these two dimensions are important to a Fono Fale because it represents what a Fono Fale is. It is also important because it is what islanders are all about and because the Fono Fale is island, pacific created. Here is a picture of what a Fono Fale looks like :
Image result for fonofale

Hauora

Hauora - ( Taha Tinana, Taha Hinengaro, Taha Whanau, Taha Wairua ) are represented as a Marae. They are four walls of the Marae that represents these elements - Taha Tinana, Taha Hinengaro, Taha Whanau and Taha Wairua. If at least one wall of the " Marae " is destroyed, the other three breaks and the entire building comes down because the four elements is reliable for the " Marae " to stand together as one. This can also be called " Dimensions "
Dimensions are what we are talking about. The four parts of Hauora are linked to what we call Dimensions. Each Dimension has a different meaning behind of its word. For eg -
Taha Tinana - (physical)
  • Sports
  • Movement
  • Exercise
Taha Wairua - (spiritual)
  • Church
  • Jesus
  • Family

Taha Whanau - (family)
  • Friends
  • Interaction
  • Family

Taha Hinegane - (mental/emotional)
  • Thinking
  • Feelings
  • Emotions

He Korowai Hapori - Ruapotaka Marae

Ruapotaka Marae
He Korowai Hapori
Whaea Noelene
Housing in the Tamaki Community

When we entered the Ruapotaka Marae there was a speaker. Her name was Whaea Noelene. And there was one other school. That school name was Glen Taylor, they brought the year fives and sixes to visit like what we were doing. Anyways Whaea Noelene did and awesome Maori introduction to welcome us and to let us know who she is. Her fluency of speaking Maori was incredible and really unique. The tone of her voice, as she was speaking made me fall asleep. She talked about the Tamaki Community, of houses being built around that area. She also talked out some special Maori words telling us that we are the treasure for the future. She showed us a Maori designed Korowai. They said that they made the Korowai by hand and that got me amazed. Amazed of the amount of hard work they had to do. Each design of the Korowai they created, had a different meaning behind it. I cant remember all of it, but i still know what it could look like. It had colours of course and layers of house's on coloured lines on top of brown flax. It was a good piece of art and it was something different as in cool. I liked how it looked because i havent seen one before but that was my first time. It was a good trip down at the Ruapotaka Marae cause im sure we all learned something special and new.

Review about Sustainability

Review our sustainability day!  Give lots of examples!

What did you do?
We went exploring differents parts of the school and we talk about the Marae and the patterns and the history of Manawa tau and we talk about what each pattern printed on the Marae was about.

What did you learn?
We learnt that we had to keep our school, our area, our community clean and that we have parks and stuff to keep our children fit and that they have fun. And we also learnt that we have to keep trying no matter what happens to us or whatever gets in our way that we fight it and keep on going

How did you feel?
I felt a lot of things but i don’t know which one yet but i did feel like family with the heart of tamaki college

What do you want to learn more about?
I wanted to learn about why the name is Tamaki College even though it’s a good name for a college but why it was chosen for this college
